Running SEO From Your Agent
Connecting an agent to live SEO data changes which part of the work is hard. Here is what actually moves to the agent, what stubbornly does not, and how to tell the difference.
An agent with no data is a confident generalist. Ask one for keyword ideas and it will produce a plausible list, phrased well, with no volumes, no difficulty, and no knowledge of who currently ranks. It reads like SEO advice and cannot be acted on, because every number you would use to choose between the suggestions is missing.
Connect the same agent to real data and the failure mode inverts. It stops guessing and starts pulling — and the new problem is that it will happily pull a great deal.
Both of those are worth understanding before you wire anything up.
What actually changes
The mechanism is MCP: your agent connects to a server that exposes tools, calls them, and reads the results. Give it the context once
The single highest-return thing you can do is tell the agent what the business is before asking it anything.
Not the site — the positioning. Who you sell to, what you sell, which customers are worth having, which searches look relevant but are not. Without that, an agent optimises for volume, because volume is the only signal in the data. With it, it can discard the large, irrelevant terms that would otherwise dominate every list it gives you.
